We’re not used to real summer heat

I’m way too hot to craft or sew. Not “sexy hot” either; I mean grouchy, sticky, dirty hot. Turns out meal quality at our house is indirectly proportional to the temperature. On the bright side, the girls were pretty darn stoked tonight to eat popsicles and a multi-vitamin for dinner in their underwear.

Although that apparently wasn’t quite enough for the youngest, because immediately following, she hid in the bathroom and ate an entire tube of her sister’s chapstick (or “flip-flop”, as it’s known in our house (people get really confused when the oldest asks people if she can use some of their flip-flop when she sees them bust out their chapstick)).

We’re really not used to this kind of heat here, and really not prepared for it either. We have no air conditioning and only one fan. Of course, as soon as it breaks 90 around here, everyone freaks out and buys all the air conditioners and fans anyway, so I’m not bothering to look. Plus, the last thing I want to do is load the girls in the car and go fight someone for one.

One nice development of late, is the discovery that the tiny plums coming off one of the trees in the backyard are actually fairly good to eat. (The heat may be messing with my sanity just a bit because I’ve baked two out of the last three nights and the temperature in the house both times was 89.) I made a plum tart last night that was pretty tasty, although I have to modify the recipe just a tad more I think. Experimenting with the plum tart will not be a problem, because as you can see here, we have plenty…

This photo represents about two percent of what’s on the tree. I took this after Dave had picked two kid sand buckets full and I couldn’t even tell he’d made a dent here.

This is one hot kid.
