Easter Eggs & Easter Dresses

I just finished the girls’ Easter dresses yesterday with a whole day to spare! I took photos in case the girls won’t stand still when they actually have them on. They are all fleece. Since Easter is almost always frigid where we live and because we often spend Easter in eastern Washington, I figured if I ever made them dresses, they would be knit wool or felt or fleece. Fleece seemed the easiest, so that was my obvious choice. When I told the lady at the fabric store that I was making Easter dresses out of it, she didn’t even try to hide her disapproval. I used two solids and a print. I cut flowers from the print and appliqued them onto the dresses. I made coordinating neck warmers out of the rest of the print. These were soooo easy, I can hardly believe it. And, if all goes according to plan tomorrow, they won’t freeze their booties off while hunting eggs!

We dyed eggs today and I used Asian tea cups for the dye. They worked great because they are so small, I was able to concentrate the dye more. The eggs we have are produced by a friend’s backyard chickens, so they weren’t perfectly white like the store-bought kind. The colors turned out really bright though. Only two soldiers were wounded in the process. I boiled them perfectly for the first time ever – there was no gray lining around the yoke! M showed me when she and her sister shared one of the casualties to eat. Walter and Carl got to split the other one – two happy dogs!
